57. David V. T. POOLE was born about 1798 in NC or SC. David's full name is believed to be David Vinson Thomas Poole. His grandsons and great grandsons have carried on the naming tradition and used both Vinson and Thomas. He died about 1881. Alabama records show that at various times, Adam was listed as a school teacher and as a Minister of the Gospel. Marriage records show that Adam was a Methodist Minister and performed many wedding ceremonies.

1819 - David issued power of attorney in Franklin County, Georgia to Patrick Mabry. The power of attorney authorized Patrick to act for David in the disposition of the estate of Mary Mabry deceased and Ephraim Mabry, Jr. deceased belonging to the the heirs of Elizabeth Pool deceased.

1820 - David V. T. Poole purchased 30 acres of land in Jasper County, Georgia for $154.00 paid to James Hutto. The land was part of Lot No. 227 located in formally Baldwin now Jasper. Deed recorded on November 5, 1824 (Deed Book A, page 336).

1826 - David was still in Jasper County and listed as "Captain of Militia."

1830 - David V. T. enumerated in Newton County, Georgia. There were 2 children in the household, a male aged 5-10 and a female aged 0-5.

1836 - David's residence was listed as Chambers County, Alabama on a land patent dated February 17, 1836 from the Montgomery Land Office.

1840 - David is enumerated in Randolph County, Alabama.

1850 - The family was listed in Benton County, Alabama. Later the name of the county was changed to Calhoun.

1860 - Family resided in Randolph County, Alabama.

1836 - The first Grand Jury Presentments of record in DeKalb County were returned in March, 1836 term of the Superior Court. An indictment was returned against Ephriam M. Poole and Andrew Jackson for gaming. They were charged with playing a game of cards called Brag alias Blyff alias Poker. They were found not guilty at the September, 1836 term of court.

1842 - The Tuesday, May 10, 1842 Southern Recorder listed E. M. Pool as a stockholder in the Monroe Railroad & Banking Company.

131. Private Abel Pennington POOL was born about 1816 in AL. Abel served as a private in Dent's Company of Chisloms Alabama Military Volunteers. The company was formed in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama in February 1836 to serve in the Seminole Indian War.

1850 - Enumerated in District #1, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. Abel was age 34, and his occupation was listed as carpenter; his wife, Lucinda, aged 30, born South Carolina. Along with their children: Amelia C., aged 11; John W., aged 6; William F., aged 5; Mahala F., aged 3 and Reuben M., aged 1. Cemetery records show that they had a daughter who was born and died between the 1840 and 1850 census. Martha Rebecca, born August 23, 1840 and died January 10, 1845 is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

William Ryley Poole

147. William Ryley POOLE C.S.A. was born on 25 Mar 1831 in Newton County, GA. William Ryley states his date of birth as March 25, 1825 in his Mexican War Pension Application. Believe this date is incorrect and was given to insure his pension application was approved. He died on 14 Jun 1906 in Miller County, GA. He was buried in Tabb Family Cemetery, Miller County, GA. William Ryley fought in both the Mexican and the Civil War. Family oral history says that William lied about his age to enlist in the Mexican War. He was reported to have been a "Drummer Boy."

1847 - William Ryley, aged 16, enlisted to fight in the Mexican War on July 18, 1847 at Columbus, Georgia.

1847 - He was mustered in September 4, 1847 and served as a private in Company C of the Battalion of Georgia Mounted Volunteers under Lt. Col. James S. Calhoun and Capt. Henry Kendell.

1848 - He was discharged at Mobile, Alabama on July 9, 1848. He probably went to Marion County, Georgia after his discharge since he married his first wife there in 1849.

1849 - Married his first wife, Catherine McCloud, October 4, 1849 in Marion County.

1850 - William R., aged 19, and his first wife, Catherine McCloud, aged 18, were enumerated in Marion County, Georgia.

1852 - William moved to Baker County, Georgia.

1857 - William was living in Miller County, Georgia.

1860 - William, aged 30, and Catherine, aged 29, were enumerated in Miller County, Georgia with their children; Robert C., aged 6; Mary Laura, aged 4, William Lemuel, aged 2 and Susanna Victoria, aged 2 months.

1862 - He enlisted with Company D, 51st Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Northern Virginia, C. S. A., Baker, Colquitt, Miller Counties, Georgia, Miller Guards on March 4, 1862. He was elected to Jr. 2nd Lieutenant on October 16, 1862. He was later elected to 2nd Lieutenant on April 29, 1863.

1864 - William was admitted on August 7, 1864 to Jackson Hospital, Richmond, Virginia with chronic diarrhea. He was returned to duty on August 25, 1864.

1865 - William was captured near Richmond, Virginia on March 31, 1865. He was released June 19, 1865, at Johnson's Island, Ohio on taking the oath of allegiance.

1870 - William Ryley, aged 39, and Catherine, aged 39, were enumerated in Miller County with their children: Robert. C., aged 16; Mary Laura, aged 14; William Lemuel aged 12; Susannah Victoria, aged 10; Katherine Kisia aged 9 and Francis aged 2. Jemima Boothe, aged 57, was also in the household listed as keeping house. Suspect that Jemima was probably, Jemima McGraw, wife of Robert T. Poole and William's mother.

1873 - Catherine, William's first wife died on April 3, 1873 and he married his second wife, Maranda Haire, on June 3, 1873 in Miller County.

1879 - W. R. Pool is on the April 1879 Grand Juror list for Miller County.

1880 - William, aged 50, and his second wife Maranda Hair, aged 44 were enumerated in Miller County with children; Susanna Victoria, aged 18; Katherine Kisia, aged 17; Francis, aged 12, Calvin, aged 3 and Henry Thomas, aged 2 months.

1888 - W. R. Poole is listed as a member of the Miller County Board of Education from 1888 to 1890.

1890 - Maranda, William's second wife died on July 10, 1890 and he married his third wife, Rebecca Francis McClain on October 5, 1890.

1900 - William R. Poole, aged 61, and his third wife, Rebecca, aged 57 were enumerated in Miller County with William's son, Henry, aged 20. William I. Geer, aged 27 and Ada C,, aged 20 were in the household also.

He was married to Catherine MCCLOUD on 4 Oct 1849 in Marion County, GA. Catherine MCCLOUD was born on 21 Mar 1832 in Baker County, GA. Place of birth from William Lemuel Poole's death certificate. She died on 3 Apr 1873 in Miller County, GA. She was buried in Tabb Family Cemetery, Miller County, GA. William Ryley POOLE C.S.A. and Catherine MCCLOUD had the following children:
